STATUS: Enough Truth for a True

Mark Millar and JG Jones’ Wanted was about a young man who finds out that his father is part of a secret society of supervillains.

Ever since the hit comic book came out in 2003, it has been rumored that the story was originally written for DC as a pitch by Millar for a mini-series about the ACTUAL Secret Society of Supervillains.

Comic Attack Looks at Wanted

Top Cow Productions published the comic book called Wanted by Mark Millar in 2003. Wanted focused on a cubicle worker named Wesley Gibson who had been pushed around by almost everyone in his unfulfilled life. He meets Fox, who is part of a super villain organization called the Fraternity.

The Fraternity was formed in the 1980s by super villains who realized that they had greater strength in groups against super heroes. The super villains won the battle against the super heroes, and erased all of the world’s memories of anyone with special abilities. Wesley meets Professor Solomon Selzer, a mad scientist, who leads the North and South American chapter of the organization.

The Professor informs him that his father worked for the Fraternity and was assassinated by an unknown man. In order for Wesley to receive the inheritance left to him by his father, he must join the Fraternity. He is trained by Fox and accepted into the fold later on. When Rictus and Future want to go against the Fraternity’s secrecy policy and rule the world, Wesley and Fox must stop them before it’s too late.

MTV Splashpage Talks Wanted 2 With Mark Millar

One thing's for sure: if/when "Wanted 2" hits theaters, Angelina Jolie will not be taking a shot at rising from the dead.

MTV News caught up with "Wanted" co-creator Mark Millar at the South By Southwest Film Festival to get his thoughts on how the "Wanted 2" story and its fraternity of assassins will move forward without Jolie's character, and why the answer could lie in the introduction of other fraternities around the world.

"They killed off the most recognizable character, but I thought it was great to do that," Millar told MTV News. "It was so ballsy to kill off the one person you didn't expect to die."

"What they're talking about is just moving on with the story and doing it properly," he said. "Just bringing in another cool character as this world opens up with all the different fraternities out there all across the world. This could change at any moment, but the last I heard two weeks ago, was that was the plan moving forward."

ComicVine: Wanted 2 Is Still On!

When Angelina Jolie revealed that she would not be returning for the sequel to Wanted, we quickly heard the rumor that Universal Studios would be canceling the sequel. According to an inside source close to the project we can confirm that the sequel will still be moving forward even without Jolie, and that she will not be replaced on the upcoming project. And if you still have your doubts about our source, you can put your fears to rest because WANTED writer Mark Millar agreed that the project is still a go ahead.

MTV Splashpage: Mark Millar Says 'Wanted 2' Will Go On Without Angelina Jolie

Last week, word broke that Angelina Jolie had turned down the chance to reprise her role as Fox in "Wanted 2." Despite initial rumors claiming that the potential sequel had been shelved by Universal, "Wanted" co-creator Mark Millar has indicated the film will proceed without Jolie.

“'Wanted 2' will be certainly going ahead, because the first one made too much money for them not to do a sequel," explained Millar during an interview with STV. "What I heard was that there’s filming this year for a release at the end of next year, so the plot that they had will have some modifications now. Her character will have to be written out completely. We’ll see what happens, I don’t know, it changes every day. Again, things get so out of your hands with film because 300 people are involved, whereas with comics it’s just you and your artist."

The first "Wanted" movie differed significantly from the original miniseries by Millar and artist J.G. Jones, especially in regards to the fate of Jolie's character at the end of the film.

MTV Splash Page: Mark Millar Says 'Wanted 2' Script Is 'Almost Ready'

For well over a year, Mark Millar has been talking about the proposed sequel to "Wanted", based upon his hit creator owned comic miniseries with artist J.G. Jones. The film, staring James McAvoy as Wesley Gibson and Angelina Jolie as Fox was a surprise hit during its release in 2008, making a sequel inevitable. And according to Millar, "Wanted 2" may finally be close to going in front of the cameras.

"I can't remember exactly when it's going to start shooting — I don't even know if I can officially say — but it will be soon and the script is almost ready," said Millar during an interview with IGN. Millar also disclosed where the sequel would pick up and reiterated that it would have a "global" scope.

"['Wanted 2'] follows immediately at the end of the first movie and the fraternity is down in America. But there's an international fraternity, which we had in the [miniseries] as well. There [were] five fraternities across the world and [Wesley] is out there being hunted by the other guys."

Mark Millar Defends New ‘Wanted 2’ Screenwriter, Says He’s ‘Supposed To Be Really Good’

To the surprise of many, “Pooh’s Heffalump” screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos was announced last week as the new writer for “Wanted 2,” the sequel to the 2008 film based on Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ comic book series.
