New Moon studio Summit Entertainment will adapt the Top Cow comic book Alibi. John Hlavin, who is also writing the fourth Underworld film for Screen Gems, is attached to pen the script.

Variety says the comic "centers on a well-known socialite whose public presence establishes a perfect alibi for the covert activity of his secret twin brother, a government assassin." Mandeville Films' David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who are producing the movie, acquired the rights after Comic-Con this past summer.

Jo Blo Wants You To Know Summit Has An Alibi

Now that Summit has a few extra bucks in their pockets (their NEW MOON is kinda popular, y'know), the company is putting more projects in the pipe.

Summit has grabbed the lesser-known Top Cow espionage comic ALIBI for feature treatment, and handed it off to writer John Hlavin (UNDERWORLD 4, "The Shield") in the desperate hope it will be the next WANTED, which was also adapted (barely) from a Top Cow series.

The story involves a professional assassin with an uncanny ability to cover his tracks -- every time he's a suspect for a high-profile hit, he conveniently has an alibi that places him elsewhere. Things go well until someone discovers his secret (which is a twin, of course).

The Coventry Telegraph Announces Comics to Screen: Twilight Studio Takes on Alibi

SUMMIT Entertainment, the studio behind the Twilight movies, is to help bring the comic book Alibi to the big screen.

Summit has teamed up with Top Cow Productions and Mandeville Entertainment for the spy thriller.

The Top Cow comic, published last year, centres on government assassin John Stephens whose perfect alibi is his twin brother, a well-known socialite. Mandeville picked up film rights to the book in August, just after San Diego Comic-Con.

According to Variety, Summit has hired The Shield writer John Hlavin to pen the script. He is also writing the fourth instalment of the fantasy horror franchise Underworld for Screen Gems and is developing a Wild West screenplay called Gunslinger for Warner Bros.

The Alibi comic was created by Top Cow president Matt Hawkins and Michael Renegar, written by Joshua Hale Fialkov and illustrated by Jeremy Haun.

Variety Confirms Summit Takes on Alibi

Summit Entertainment, fresh off the success of "New Moon," has come onboard a feature version of Top Cow's comicbook "Alibi," with Mandeville toppers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing.
Comicbook, published last year, centers on a well-known socialite whose public presence establishes a perfect alibi for the covert activity of his secret twin brother, a government assassin. Mandeville snapped up rights to the project shortly after Comic-Con (Daily Variety, Aug. 4).

Summit's attached John Hlavin to pen the script. He was recently hired to write the fourth installment of "Underworld" for Screen Gems and is developing his Western screenplay "Gunslinger" at Warner Bros.

Hlavin's also writing "Boston P.D.," a cop procedural produced by Don Cheadle under his Crescendo banner, for NBC. He was previously was a writer and story editor on "The Shield."

Mandeville VP David Manpearl is exec producing "Alibi." Mandeville produced "The Proposal" and "Surrogates" for Disney and is in post on "The Fighter" for Par with Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams.

Top Cow CEO and founder Marc Silvestri is also exec producing along with Top Cow COO & President Matt Hawkins. The comic book "Alibi" was created by Hawkins and Michael Renegar, written by Joshua Hale Fialkov and illustrated by Jeremy Haun.

For Top Cow, the deal's aimed at replicating the success of "Wanted." That Angelina Jolie starrer, an adaptation of another Top Cow title, topped $340 million in worldwide grosses. Top Cow's "Witchblade" title was the basis for a TNT series.

Hlavin's repped by UTA and Benderspink. ICM reps Hawkins and packaged the deal with Mandeville.

'Twilight' Studio Picks Up 'Alibi' Adaptation

Flush from the success of “Twilight” and its sequel “New Moon,” Summit Entertainment has picked up the film rights for Top Cow’s “Alibi.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, John Hlavin (“The Shield”) is onboard to write the adaptation. Halvin was also recently tapped to write the fourth “Underworld” film. “Alibi” co-creator and Top Cow President Matt Hawkins is also attached as an executive producer, along with Marc Silvestri.

An “Alibi” one shot written by Joshua Hale Fialkov with art by Jeremy Haun was published last year as part of Top Cow’s Pilot Season. The story follows a wealthily playboy named John Stephens whose high profile social life serves as the perfect cover for his twin brother Rick — a top-secret government assassin. The concept was created by Hawkins and Michael Renegar.
