A blogger blogs his blog love to Witchblade

Sometimes it is easier to just write a book off as something and never look back on it. After all there are a ton of comics out there to be read, and if it doesn't pass that first test then you move on and don't look back. Witchblade was one of those series which I tried way back when it first came out and dismissed it as mindless T&A CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Witchblade review by Chris Blair

Directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi, Witchblade is a twenty-four episode series based on the original creation by Marc Silvestri of Top Cow Productions. In taking this property, which has already seen an adaptation into live action form in the US, Gonzo opted to use the basic concepts and ideas and create a new original story alongside Top Cow. The end result is something that has some very solid ties to what has come before but has to stand on its own. Having been a fan of the Witchblade comics when they came out in those heady days of Image Comics, seeing this sort of adaptation of the franchise is extremely fascinating. So few western properties get adapted in this manner and that alone merits some extra attention. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Another review for Witchblade #116

Witchblade #80 marked the beginning of Ron Marz’ run on this book and provided an excellent jumping on point for new readers. I missed out that wagon, but came on board with #101. So far, I don’t regret it. Issue #116 is yet another jumping on point, but with a nice added bonus, the creative team is committed to the Book until #150. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

MOORE & REPPION ON DARKNESS VS. EVA

Hitting stores this week, a crossover from Top Cow and Dynamite Entertainment - Darkness vs. Eva: Daughter of Dracula. Written by John Reppion and Leah Moore with artwork by Edgar Salazar, this intercompany crossover mini-series is the first time that these two characters have faced off against one another. Eva is fighting her way through scores of undead as a new evil begins to overtake the city and Jackie Estacado is losing control of his Darkness power as a new evil being is set loose on the world – a simple tale, really. Another great review for Witchblade #116

Every now and again, it’s always nice to revisit your roots. Witchblade was one of the first titles I ever bought regularly, back when dinosaurs walked the Earth and the fabulous Michael Turner was the artist (As an aside, Turner’s own work, Fathom is one of the best kept secrets in action comics. Well worth tracking down.). The whole thing played rather like a cross between Highlander and NYPD Blue. For a long time I really enjoyed it too, then, after wading through yet another place holding crossover, yet another moment of faux enigma and yet more increasingly gratuitous cheesecake, I moved on to different pastures. Wizard’s glowing review of Witchblade #116

JIM: “This is my first issue EVER of Witchblade. And you know what? It’s alright.”

RACHEL: “I really like the art by Stjepan Sejic a lot. I like his use of light and shadows, and he makes really interesting three-dimensional art. There’s a lot of depth and shadows and cool effects. And you see it a lot in scene where you learn that Sara had her baby, and she’s visiting her sister in prison, where she makes an awkward joke about baby photos on her cell…but not the prison kind.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Ron Marz talks about the start of a new Witchblade era

When it comes to Ron Marz and Witchblade, the concept of commitment is never an issue.

Fresh off ofFirst Born, the event that redefined the Top Cow universe—and found Witchblade star, Sara Pezzini, giving birth to a child fathered by her supernatural rival the Darkness—Marz needed to further cement his relationship with Sara. Joined by First Born artist and painter extraordinaire, Stjepan Sejic, the creative team have assured Top Cow—and fans—that they will stay on the series beginning with March’s issue #116 through—at least—issue #150. Newsarama raves about Witchblade #116

Top Cow has been promoting Witchblade #116 for months now and the book finally hits stores this month. The book is advertised as “Part 1 of a New Era” right on the cover and indeed, writer Ron Marz and new regular artist Stjepan Sejic have committed to staying on the book through issue #150 which would make them the longest running creative team in the title’s history. Sejic certainly isn’t new to the character, having previously worked on the First Born mini-series that has resulted in many of the changes in the Top Cow universe. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Joe Casey talks VELOCITY

Comic Vine: I know you're a busy guy, thanks for taking the time to talk to us.
Congrats on Velocity winning Pilot Season. Let's talk about her.

How many arcs do you have in mind so far? Multi-part stories, single issues or both?

Joe Casey: As far as I know, Top Cow is simply planning for an initial mini-series. Who knows what'll happen after that...?

C-Vine: Will other members of Cyberforce be appearing? Will Ripclaw play a role due to their romantic past? Other crossover characters? Supporting cast?

The tattoo has returned.

JC: I haven't really dived into the plot of the series yet, but I'm leaning strongly toward no other Cyberforce characters. Velocity is strong enough a character to stand on her own. That doesn't mean other Top Cow Universe characters won't appear, though... CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Witchblade Anime Volume 5 DVD review

Witchblade has been one of my pleasant surprises in 2007/2008. Instead of just offering up fights without much meaning, it's a show that's given viewers a character-driven story and good drama, which in turn have given the fights some substance. Beware: the next few paragraphs contain some spoilers, so read with caution, especially those of you who haven't seen any of the series yet. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.
