Previews World: Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik Talks Pilot Season

Since its introduction, Top Cow Productions’ Pilot Season has evolved into a fan-favorite event – mostly because it involves the fans making their voices heard by voting for their favorite comic from a list of contenders.

This year, however, things are a little different.

The voting aspect of the event remains the same, but now – instead of numerous creators presenting books for consideration – seasoned creators Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri are behind all five books of the new Pilot Season.

In this interview, Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik expands on how this Pilot Season differs from those of the past, how Kirkman and Silvestri came to be part of it, and more.

PREVIEWSworld: Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri are co-creating all five one-shots for this year’s event. How did each creator come to be involved? Was this something Top Cow approached them about or vice versa?

Filip Sablik: Robert actually approached me and [President and Chief Operating Officer] Matt Hawkins about doing something for Pilot Season. We thought initially that he might be interested in contributing one idea to the 2009 slate, but in typical Kirkman fashion he had a much more ambitious plan in mind.
