Comic Attack Looks at Wanted

Top Cow Productions published the comic book called Wanted by Mark Millar in 2003. Wanted focused on a cubicle worker named Wesley Gibson who had been pushed around by almost everyone in his unfulfilled life. He meets Fox, who is part of a super villain organization called the Fraternity.

The Fraternity was formed in the 1980s by super villains who realized that they had greater strength in groups against super heroes. The super villains won the battle against the super heroes, and erased all of the world’s memories of anyone with special abilities. Wesley meets Professor Solomon Selzer, a mad scientist, who leads the North and South American chapter of the organization.

The Professor informs him that his father worked for the Fraternity and was assassinated by an unknown man. In order for Wesley to receive the inheritance left to him by his father, he must join the Fraternity. He is trained by Fox and accepted into the fold later on. When Rictus and Future want to go against the Fraternity’s secrecy policy and rule the world, Wesley and Fox must stop them before it’s too late.

Behind the Scenes: Wanted

The New Yorker talks Wanted

What is it like being Timur Bekmambetov? No artist should be confused too closely with his creations, but anybody who sits through “Wanted,” Bekmambetov’s new movie, will be tempted to wonder if the life style of the characters might not reflect or rub off on that of the director. How, for example, does he make a cup of coffee? My best guess, based on the evidence of the film, is that he tosses a handful of beans toward the ceiling, shoots them individually into a fine powder, leaves it hanging in the air, runs downstairs, breaks open a fire hydrant with his head, carefully directs the jet of water through the window of his apartment, sets fire to the building, then stands patiently with his mug amid the blazing ruins to collect the precious percolated drops. Don’t even think about a cappuccino. READ MORE.

WANTED: James McAvoy

When approached for the role of Wesley Gibson in “Wanted,” the new Timur Bekmambetov film based on the Top Cow graphic novel by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, actor James McAvoy had his doubts. “I thought I was probably bad casting for it but I also thought, the action movie can be just really seamy and can be really bad,” he told CBR News. Opening June 27 in the US, “Wanted” co-stars Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Common and Terence Stamp, and tells the story of a young man who discovers he is the son of a brilliant assassin, who himself had been assassinated, and is given the chance to seek revenge. 'Wanted' Featurette Shows How Movie Borrows Heavily from the Comic

Despite what you may have heard about the upcoming film adaptation of the Wanted mini-series (due out in theaters from Universal Pictures on June 27), many of the scenes have been taken straight out of the source material.

In a new featurette that debuted on Empire Online, writer Mark Millar, director Timur Bekmambetov and producer Marc Platt explain how scenes in the movie were ripped directly from the comic, which was superbly drawn by J.G. Jones. The movie stars James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman.

Check out the immensely fascinating clip HERE.
