CBR Comic Reel: Wanted 2, Green Hornet, Iron Man 2

WANTED 2

E! Online reports the makers of the sequel are eyeing Kristin Stewart to take Angelina Jolie's place in the film. "While details are still pretty scarce, Stewart's character would be a young, ass-kicking assassin in the Fraternity," writes E! "Our insider says Kristen was approached to fill Jolie's hot-woman void in the franchise and met at least once with Timur Bekmambetov, the director of the series." Of course, the whole thing could be a dodge to get Jolie back into the picture. I know I should make some sort of Bella joke here, but I find I'm at a loss for one. No, wait! Here we go: "I guess this is another thing for Bella to be pissy about." Eh ... I'll get back to you on this one.

Angelina Jolie Considers Wanted 2

Last time I wrote about Wanted 2, it was to talk about the fact that Fox, Angelina Jolie’s character from the original film, might return. At that point, many things pointed to the liklihood of that actually happening being pretty low. But a couple of days ago I missed a piece on MTV (because I’m no longer used to them posting anything that isn’t Twilight-related) in which director Timur Bekmambetov talks about having cracked an idea to feature Fox once more.

'Wanted 2' Director Says Jolie on Board

MTV is reporting that Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov has told a Russian news site that he has already begun preparations for a sequel to the well-received action film based on the Top Cow comic book by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. Marvel’s problems in resurrecting Captain America pale beside those of Wanted 2 screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos, who may be asked to bring back a host of characters who were disposed of in the original film including Jolie’s “Fox” and Kostya Kahbenskiy’s “The Exterminator."

WANTED: Timur Bekmambetov

Director Timur Bekmambetov is well known for his wildly successful Russian vampire epics “Night Watch” and “Day Watch,” two of the biggest films the history in Russian Cinema, which made big in-roads in the United States and around the world. Based on the Top Cow graphic novel, “Wanted” brings the director, for the first time, to English language filmmaking. Bekmambetov believes, however, that the comic book film is not that different from his previous work. “It’s a similar idea because there is a purpose for everything, and it’s the same for ‘Night Watch’ and ‘Day Watch.’ We’re living ordinary lives and we don’t know what’s happening next to us,” Berkmambetov told CBR News. “And it’s very intriguing for people because everybody thinks there’s something important happening next to us and we don’t know about it.” READ MORE.

'Wanted' Featurette Shows How Movie Borrows Heavily from the Comic

Despite what you may have heard about the upcoming film adaptation of the Wanted mini-series (due out in theaters from Universal Pictures on June 27), many of the scenes have been taken straight out of the source material.

In a new featurette that debuted on Empire Online, writer Mark Millar, director Timur Bekmambetov and producer Marc Platt explain how scenes in the movie were ripped directly from the comic, which was superbly drawn by J.G. Jones. The movie stars James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman.

Check out the immensely fascinating clip HERE.
