Every Bit Helps. Heroes 4 Haiti Raising Money for Haiti

As reported by Pop Candy, the comics community is raising money for Haiti:

Right now it's crucial to donate resources to victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Several artists and members of the comic-book community have started Heroes 4 Haiti, a collective that's raising money through online auctions.

Right now some of the items include original art by Dean Haspiel, a signed copy of Paul Karasik's You Shall Die By Your Own Evil Creation, lots of Planet Hulk art from Greg Pak and an original drawing by Dave McKean from The Graveyard Book (by Neil Gaiman).

Keep checking the Heroes 4 Haiti site for more charity auctions.

Sending Out the Herd Signal: Heroes4Haiti to Benefit Earthquake Victims

From Robot 6:

A group of comics industry folks have come together to raise funds to support organizations that are helping victims of the recent 7.0 earthquake in Haiti.

Heroes 4 Haiti is "a grassroots movement of artists seeking to raise money for organizations helping victims of the recent Haitian earthquake. Heroes for Haiti is not an organization, it's a collective response to human tragedy. We're asking everyone to donate a little bit of their talent, money or time towards helping those in need." Artist Mike Cavallaro, SMITH Magazine's Jeff Newelt and the CBLDF's Charles Brownstein are all involved with the organization.

They're asking folks to donate art, collectibles and services via eBay auctions. For more information, check out their blog or their Facebook page.

Sending Out the Herd Signal: Stand & Fight Pictionary Tournament in Pictionary Tournament

Comic book artists will be facing off comedians in an brutal battle of Pictionary next Wednesday, January 13 to benefit children with Autism.

The benefit supports the Pasadena Child Development Associates, Inc. (PCDA), a nonprofit organization providing development services to children with autism and other developmental disorders.

Audience members can win collectible art created during the tournament by Top Cow's very own Eric Basaldua.

For Herders in the southern California area, the tournament takes place at The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Autism strikes one in 70 children (one in 51 boys) and is now considered an epidemic. California State budget cuts, coupled with an increasing need for services, has made fundraising more important than ever.

Go out and support the cause.

You can RSVP to the event here.

Silvestri Auctioning Page of Original Artwork for Charity

Escape from Tomorrow picked-up an email from Top Cow this morning announcing that Marc Silvestri has kindly made available a page of his original artwork to be auctioned on eBay on behalf of charity.

The page in question, featuring Iron Man, is from Civil War: The Initiative and, if the winning bidder wishes, Mr Silvestri will sign the artwork. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the dog-rescue charity New Leash On Life.

Explaining their support for the charity Bridget and Marc Silvestri wrote:

In Loving Memory of our Doberman, Ronald, who went to heaven in Dec 2008, we are donating an original page of Marc's art, from Civil War, Issue 1 pg 23 featuring Ironman to be auctioned off for charity by one of our favorite Charities, New Leash On Life. This Dog rescue organization is where we adopted our Doberman, Ronald, 15 years ago. We had him & our Bulldog Alice (also now in heaven) trained there. NLOL is near and dear to ours hearts for personal reasons as well as the fact that they have helped hundreds of dogs find loving permanent homes. If you have ever wanted to own a piece of Marc's art, now is your chance.

The auction closes on 7 December 2009, 14:44:34 (PST).

OPEN LETTER: Josh Medors Benefit Auction

This is a call to action!

As many of you may know already, artist Josh Medors (Frazetta's Swamp Demon & Sorcerer, Runes of Ragnan, 30 Days of Night) has been fighting a losing battle against a terminal form of cancer for well over a year, and it has recently taken a turn for the worst. The doctors and conventional medicine have all but given up on him and say there isn't anything else they can do. But he has found an alternative treatment that has the possibility of extending his life a bit and can help improve the quality of his life near the end so he can spend it with his wife and son. There is even a slim chance it can make him somewhat better, so he has to try. But of course the treatment is very expensive and Josh has no medical insurance.

(Josh Medors is a swell guy and a talented artist who we had the privilage to work with on The Darkness #76 cover. This is a worthy cause, so please consider helping out if you are able to.)

Promoting Reading

Some folks might not be aware, but Top Cow regularly gets involved in various charity and promotional events where we donate comics, graphic novels, and other cool stuff. Every once in a while we get cool letters back thanking us for our participation. I thought it'd be cool to share on of these letters with the Herd. This one is from the Cumberland County Public Library after their Librari-Con. As always, we're happy to help!
