This issue works pretty well on its own, even though it’s part of a larger series and is currently building towards the massive Artifacts crossover wherein the entirety of the Top Cow universe is going to clash. Ron Marz keeps things light and fast-paced, and avoids getting bogged down in the details of continuity. As someone who’s new to the Top Cow universe, this was a godsend, but there were a few times where I felt a bit lost since the story deals with some heavy mythology.
If this issue does something right, it’s that it made me want to pick up the next issue and it’s even made me consider giving Artifacts a shot. Sometimes, diving in headfirst is the way to go in comics. This time it worked out pretty well for me.
