Major Spoilers Reviews Tracker #1

Tracker #1
Publisher: Top Cow, Image, Heroes and Villains Entertainment
Writer: Jonathan Lincoln
Artist: Francis Tsai
Cover A: Francis Tsai
Cover B: Darick Robertson and JD Smith

Federal Agent Jezebel Kendall is rather upset when she answers a call to what initially looks to be a simple bus crash. But upon entering the bus, she finds a charnel house of human remains. This is the work of the serial killer she knows as Herrod. But thinks get even stranger when she calls her partner, Alex O’Roark only to find him on the bus under a pile of bodies, clutching his cell phone more tightly than his life.

Overall, I liked the book. There was a werewolf/cop movie out SEVERAL years ago called Full Eclipse that starred Mario Van Peeples that I always loved, and while this does not have any real resemblance to it, I could not help but be reminded of that movie. With the big push now being in vampire and werewolves, Top Cow and HVE have picked a great time to have Tracker pounce on the reading public, and earns 4 out of 5 stars.

Newsarama Looks At The Process of Top Cow's TRACKER

Conceiving a world is no easy task -- but imagine bringing that world to life.

Add in a new take to the werewolf mythology, and there are few people more qualified than artist Francis Tsai, who is working on Top Cow and Heroes and Villains Entertainment's upcoming series, Tracker, which follows an FBI agent after he is infected with lycanthropy.

How does one take that sort of vision, and distill it onto the page? Tsai sat down with Newsarama to discuss his influences, his process, and his thoughts on his circituous becoming a comics artist.

Newsarama: Francis, for those who don't know about your background, could you tell us of your experience with architecture and design art? How does that impact your take on Tracker?

Francis Tsai: Well, my formal education is in architecture. Actually, I have an undergraduate degree in physical chemistry, but I rarely use that education these days. I received a masters degree from the University of Texas School of Architecture, and worked in Austin and San Diego for a few years before switching to video game design. There was fortunately quite an overlap between architecture and video game design, mainly in terms of design process. In both cases you’re looking at a set of conditions and figuring out a specific problem to solve. In video games of course you also work on characters and props, whereas in architecture it’s pretty much entirely environmental design.

Newsarama Encounters Werewolves for the 1st Time w/ TRACKER

With sharp teeth, inhuman strength and a savage bloodlust, those infected with lycanthropy -- the werewolves -- have long since sunk their teeth into popular culture.

But Top Cow and Heroes and Villains Entertainment are taking a new spin on the beast in the upcoming series Tracker, written by newcomer writer Jonathan Lincoln teaming up with artist Francis Tsai. When FBI agent Alex O'Rourke encounters a werewolf for the first time, it begins a long struggle not only to bring a monstrous killer to justice, but to fight the virus from taking over his own life.

In short, forget about the silver bullets and exposure to moonlight -- Lincoln and Tsai were kind enough to chat with Newsarama, about process, the story's goals and inspirations, and why Tracker isn't about ghouls and goblins, but about cops, robbers, and a whole lot of bite.

CBR Sits With Tracker's Jonathan Lincoln

Jonathan Lincoln knows a thing or two about werewolves, and even though a full moon isn't going to turn anybody into a feral beast – at least not in his esteemed opinion – there are still plenty of reasons to fear the berserker side effects of lycanthropy.

Lincoln is the author of "Tracker," a five-part comic book miniseries launching in November from Top Cow Productions. "Tracker" is not only the comic book debut of writer Lincoln, it's also the debut for Heroes and Villains Entertainment, the multimedia production and management company that partnered up with Top Cow last summer. When CBR News spoke with the founders of HVE about "Tracker," they described the series as "a noir-genre thriller" that knocks conventional werewolf wisdom "out of the park."
