Anime Maki Reviews the Witchblade DVD

As an anime series Witchblade is a success. It’s a sexy show with loads of action, solid production details, and a workable story. Some fanservice diversions don’t necessarily fit in with the motif and other distractions skew it from what fans of the comic book may be used to, but overall it’s an awesome show. The upcoming Viridian release should be considered highly recommended, however, this review is for the older more expensive boxed set with all the bonus features. Who knows what, if any, supplemental content will be ported over to the new release. If you have the option definitely pick this one up!

Video Animer Reviews Witchblade the Anime Series

To start off my anime reviews I have decided to go with one of my favorite newer animes from the past couple of years.

Witchblade was based off of an American Comic Book unlike most animes which base themselves off of a manga series. There was also a television series in the U.S. by the same name. However the anime series is not based off of the original characters in the comic, but is placed in the future with a new blade wielder.

But this is not just a battle anime. It is filled with deep emotional connections, since the reason she fights is for her daughter. This anime is filled with emotions and has a bunch of laughter as well. You can really feel a deep connections with all the characters and had me in tears at the end.

The style of this anime is just beautiful as well. However some of the drawings are a bit racy. The dvd is unedited, but some parts had to be covered up when it was aired. However there is no obscene images, just a lot of skin.

ComicsOnline Reviews The Witchblade Anime Blu-Ray

West meets East, and tide has begun to turn, or has it? WitchBlade is a well-franchised American comic that made it's way across the Pacific to find a new life by the hands of the artists at Gonzo Studio. In this version, the heroine is a kinder, gentler woman who is all about being a hapless mother, but still the all encompassing Mother figure. The story of a woman cursed with the ultimate power, a young daughter with a mysterious past, and some powerful entities after the WitchBlade itself.

When we last looked in on this anime bearer of the Witchblade, Masane found out the relic was quietly killing her, and she definitely didn’t have much longer to live. How can she fend off all the nefarious forces out to take the Witchblade from her, protect her daughter Rihoko, and generally save the world? Obviously that’s what this last DVD in the series was for. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Witchblade review by Chris Blair

Directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi, Witchblade is a twenty-four episode series based on the original creation by Marc Silvestri of Top Cow Productions. In taking this property, which has already seen an adaptation into live action form in the US, Gonzo opted to use the basic concepts and ideas and create a new original story alongside Top Cow. The end result is something that has some very solid ties to what has come before but has to stand on its own. Having been a fan of the Witchblade comics when they came out in those heady days of Image Comics, seeing this sort of adaptation of the franchise is extremely fascinating. So few western properties get adapted in this manner and that alone merits some extra attention. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Witchblade Anime Volume 5 DVD review

Witchblade has been one of my pleasant surprises in 2007/2008. Instead of just offering up fights without much meaning, it's a show that's given viewers a character-driven story and good drama, which in turn have given the fights some substance. Beware: the next few paragraphs contain some spoilers, so read with caution, especially those of you who haven't seen any of the series yet. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

REVIEW Witchblade Anime Vol. 5 DVD

Given the progressive increase in quality and intensity of story and action across the four previous volumes of Witchblade anime, you would think Volume 5 would be nothing short of mindblowing (If you haven’t already, please check out my previous reviews of the witchblade volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4). Review of Witchblade Anime Vol 3 and 4

Witchblade may advertise itself as a show about a hot, semi-naked chick who regularly kicks ass every which way. In fact, though, it's at its best when dealing with the human elements, especially the aforementioned Masane and her relationship with her daughter, Rihoko. But the butt-kicking-hot-chick–seeking audience must be placated as well. The third volume of Witchblade is a bit lighter on fights than one might want, and even the drama goes on a bit of a holiday, but in the fourth volume the series returns to form. Witchblade Anime Volume 1 DVD review

Witchblade originated as a Top Cow comic book created in the mid-90's. Witchblade was the series in which superstar artist, Michael Turner, started out and became a big time sensation. From Witchblade on, Top Cow began to focus on darker, gothic, and supernatural types of titles featuring ancient weapons, warriors, and powered humans in modern day settings in titles such as The Darkness, Magdalena, and Rising Stars. Witchblade Anime Vol 4 DVD review on Newsarama

As fans of both the domestic comic and Japanese anime/manga have long known, a key theme of this Top Cow series is who the “rightful bearer” of the Witchblade truly is. For this Gonzo production, they’ve added a second twist - who is the rightful mother of one of the key characters, Mahane’s “daughter” Rihoko? This gets further complicated when Rihoko’s true biological mother is finally announced, with the consequences ending up being truly explosive. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.

Witchblade Anime Vol 1 DVD review (Region 2)

The series opens with a young, single mother (Masane Amaha) and her daughter (Rihoko) arriving in Tokyo intent on starting a new life. Found at the ‘null point’ or ground zero of a massive earthquake that decimated the city six years before, Masane and her daughter have lived a nomadic life on the fringes of society since then.
