Superheroes clobber Long Beach Comic Con

Unlike major conventions like San Diego Comic-Con where geek community celebs are often only at panels and then quickly whisked away, Long Beach’s first con was small, yet intimate and very surreal.

In an interview with the Daily Titan, Seth Green said about the convention, “I thought it was good. It’s small, so the floor is manageable. There wasn’t a lot of action figures for sale beyond, like, ‘Star Wars,’ so … a little variety wouldn’t hurt.”

Green and Hugh Sterbakov co-created the comic book “Freshmen” which Sterbakov said is the “awesomest comic ever.”

In this quick clip, while giving a shout-out to “Red Hulk,” the two soon realize that a real-life superhero has ominously dropped by the store. READ MORE.

Seth Green talks to LA Times

I got a chance to talk the other day to Seth Green who, as always, was a man in major motion. "There's a lot going on these days," he said. "But there's always a lot going on, right?" This week Green was in New York for the final episode of MTV's "Total Request Live," he was in L.A. chatting up Kevin and Bean at KROQ-FM and then he was jetting north to the Bay Area to meet with Lucasfilm folks about his ongoing and quirky relationship with the "Star Wars" universe. Green is, of course, a busy actor (more on that later) but he is especially near and dear to hearts of fanboys everywhere for his work on "Robot Chicken," the deliriously funny pop-culture spoof show that is at its very best when goofing on "Star Wars" and its mythology.

Green and his "Robot Chicken" puppeteer partners-in-crime have returned to the universe of the Jedi for "Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II," which Green directed and which makes its premiere at 11:30 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 16) on Adult Swim. As usual, it's got fall-down-funny satire of the greatest space opera of them and features voice contributions from Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Seth MacFarlane, Ahmed Best and Conan O’Brien, just to name a few. (I've got some images here from it as sneak peek; I got a good chuckle out of the Imperial stormtrooper who made the mistake of participating in "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day," which you can see after the jump...) Seth Green talks more on Freshmen movie

From his role as the as the unflappable werewolf Oz on Buffy the Vampire Slayer to his part in co-creating TV’s lo-fi nerd-satire Robot Chicken, Seth Green has almost effortlessly amassed an adoring fanbase. The actor hopes to expand on that niche appeal with his first directorial effort for the big screen, an upcoming adaptation of his popular comic book, The Freshmen. We spoke to the ever-amiable, indefatigable Green about tweaking the title for the big screen, seeking advice from George Lucas, and his upcoming cameos in Entourage and Heroes.

Green conceived the story for The Freshman with Hugh Sterbakov, who penned the title with an assist from illustrator Leonard Kirk; Green and Sterbakov are currently scripting the film. Set on a socially stratified college campus, the Top Cow series follows the misadventures of a group of dejected students who acquire peculiar abilities after a lab mishap irradiates them. Mention of FRESHMEN comic in interview with Seth Green

Seth Green might be a comic actor, but he takes acting very seriously — even for a cameo, and even for a movie like “Sex Drive.”

“I’m straight-up Daniel Day Lewis the way I approached the role,” Green boasted.

To portray an Amish character named Ezekiel — even an Amish character who has spent a lengthy amount of time outside the Amish community — Green did his research. He watched “Witness.” He watched “Kingpin.” And then he went Method.

“I spent time in Pennsylvania,” he claimed. “I interned at Dutch Wonderland. I learned how to make soap and rope.” READ MORE.

Seth Green Talks to Mtv Splash page

Since Seth Green — he of “Robot Chicken,” “Family Guy,” “Austin Powers,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” — is no stranger to geekdom, it should be of no surprise that he is a major fan of comics. He’s got one of his own, but he also likes to read “Booster Gold” and “Common Grounds.” That’s why it would have been a dream come true if he could have had a part in “Watchmen” — as a certain masked man. Seth Green Video Interview on Freshmen Movie

According to Green, don’t expect another series of comics this time around. “[Writer and co-creator] Hugh [Sterbakov] and I have talked about [volume three]…he has the whole thing mapped out,” he hinted. “[But] I really wanna push towards trying to exploit another medium — I really want to make a movie at this point. So we’re talking about how to do that. It’s always a process getting a film made, but I think this concept will really come alive on film and that’s what I’m pushing for.” WATCH THE VIDEO.

FRESHMEN: SUMMER VACATION SPECIAL REVIEW

Its been a while since Top Cow released a new Freshmen comic, and its nice to see as its definitely an interesting new property that I'd love to see more of. The first two series were really well done, very enjoyable, and I'd love to see more of the kids and their stories. Its clear that Sterbakov loves his kids too, and has plenty more stories to tell with them, especially from this one-shot. The plot of this one-shot is fairly simple, based on the format, but its also a lot of fun, with some surprising depth and characterization. From the beginning, its the atmosphere, sense of humor and characterization which Sterbakov has utilized to make this a compelling series to read, and this one-shot is no different. It ends on a somewhat sombre note, but its an appropriate one, especially after the last two series and now this one-shot.

Reflections: Hugh Sterbakov

It’s not quite time to call the crazy superpowered kids from Top Cow’s sleeper-hit series sophomores, but it’s getting darn close.

The first two volumes of “Freshmen,” co-created by Hugh Sterbakov and Seth Green and written by Sterbakov, covered the first year in the lives of average college students who just happened to be in a lab when a mad scientist’s experiments went horribly awry, giving them strange powers and abilities. One character can jump into other people’s minds and control them, two have telekinesis, one can cause earthquakes with his stomach, one can make anyone drunk with a single burp, and one grew a very long penis. PRESS RELEASE: 'Freshmen: Summer Vacation Special' Will Include Extras and Added Features

Comic book series co-created by Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov set for a 48-page one-shot issue featuring an all-new story, pin-ups, character designs and more

LOS ANGELES, Calif., April 7, 2008 – Top Cow Productions, Inc. announced today that the Freshmen: Summer Vacation Special, scheduled to ship in June, will feature all-new bonus material in addition to a brand-new story written by Hugh Sterbakov. Freshmen is a Top Cow comic book series co-created by Sterbakov and actor, producer and director, Seth Green (Robot Chicken, Family Guy).

“We’re going to have a bevy of extras, including a new, back-up text story written by yours chubbily, in addition to some pin-ups and other goodies,” said Sterbakov. “Also, as a special bonus just for our readers and hidden deep within these pages will be the true, honest, secret of the universe. Believe it. Or not.”

In addition to the secret of the universe, the 48-page one-shot issue will contain bonus pin-ups from interior artist Sheldon Mitchell (X-Men: Messiah CompleX), including one that pays homage to characters from the “Star Wars” franchise, which is a favorite of Sterbakov and Green’s. Other extras include a bonus story by Sterbakov, character style sheets, a photo parade of the creators and pin-ups by Rick Basaldua (The Darkness: Levels) and Filip Sablik (Army of Darkness).

The main story picks up chronologically after the end of the second series, Fundamentals of Fear. “We wanted to do a stand-alone adventure story to show what our kids are up to post second series without getting into the bigger stories of a third series,” said Green. In this issue, Green Thumb (aka Charles Levy), who can communicate with plants, needs the team’s help in dealing with his amorous houseplant. “This is an action-driven story in which Charles’ lovelorn plant returns in a whole new form to wreak devastating havoc on the school, and it’s told through the dazed haze of the Intoxicator,” said Sterbakov, referring to the Freshman who can produce toxic burps when he’s under the influence.

Rejoining Green and Sterbakov will be cover artist Rodolfo Migliari (Rogue), and a new member of the creative team is latest Top Cow find, Sheldon Mitchell. “Sheldon is great, he’s really enthusiastic,” lauded Green. “He’s very familiar with our kids and has a really dynamic style that works well with our story.”

Fans can meet Seth Green, Hugh Sterbakov and Sheldon Mitchell at the Top Cow Booth during San Diego Comic-Con, which takes place at the San Diego Convention Center July 24-27.
