Silvestri / Benitez / Montiel JUDGE NEW COMIC IDOL CONTEST

COMIC IDOL ONLINE RE-INVENTS HERSELF

When first starting Riot Shell and Comic Idol Online, creators Adrian Nicita & Vince Panuccio set out to create a platform for new talent and an exciting means of seeing this new talent go farther and farther as time progresses. To this day the two still has the following to say: "I was amazed at the amount of entries we kept on receiving, be it the Page Contests or the Color Contest. I am humbled by this attention and at times completely stunned by the quality some people came up with."

Adrian & Vince also noticed that the voting by title of fans alone, was not delivering the goal they set out for them self's, namely having Adrian's character Riot Shell be presented in the best way possible. So in order to optimize the contest and its results they explained: "We wanted to be both true to ourselves as well as to the voters and the artists, so I decided to make the contest even more professional and indeed I asked a Jury Of Professionals to have the final say about the contributed artwork. We are pleased to announce our 3 judges

2. Joe Benitez Aspen / Dc Artist
3. Martin Möntiel - Riot Shell #0 / Zenscope
The decision will be made by the Jury in November.


Adrian Nicita is very happy to have the contribution of comic-pro's to help his endeavor: "I cannot wait to see the next pieces of art for the third page of the first chapter come in and to have a Jury set in place to even professionalize Comic Idol Online more... well... that is something that just makes me feel good!!"

Friends of the Cow: LongBox & Comics Alliance Having a Contest to Win $25 Worth of Free Digital Comics

LongBox, a new digital comics platform that's aiming to become the iTunes of comics, is about to launch its new Beta version at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle this weekend. But while most of the world will only be able to read through a few watermarked sample comics until the wider release, ComicsAlliance readers will have an opportunity to get a wide range of comics through LBX before the general public -- and get them for free.

While LBX is still in Beta, Comics Alliance is going to be giving away 15 gift codes worth $25.00 each to 15 ComicsAlliance readers, which can be used toward anything in the LongBox store. With most LongBox comics priced at just $0.99 (and digital graphic novel collections priced around $5 to $10), winners will essentially walk away with up to 25 comics or several trade paperbacks.

Publishers like Top Cow, Boom!, Archaia, NBM, Shadowline and more have already been announced as participating, and will be offering their comics through the LBX store, along with creator-owned projects from individual creators like Jonathan Hickman ("Fantastic Four").

Friends of the Cow: Milo Ventimiglia's Ultradome

Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia along with Russ Cundiff, the producer of his production company Divide Pictures, have put together a special web series called Ultradome! The series is about geeks debating over which comic themed character could take another down in combat. Eventually though, the debates get so intense that the geeks shift their verbal battle to the Ultradome: an arena where the fighters take on the personas of their defended characters and fight to the death!

Two episodes have premiered already, the second of which was filmed on location at my comic shop Collector’s Paradise here in Los Angeles. This episode features two girlfriends arguing over which is the best all time Harrison Ford character: Indiana Jones or Han Solo. Look closely and you’ll notice one of the ladies is played by actress Jaimie Alexander (the brunette) who will be playing Sif in the 2011 Thor movie. Check out the Ultradome episode below:

“My whole life has been spent engaged with friends in intellectual debate … like whether Captain Kirk is tougher than Spock or if Middle Earth is a more difficult place to live than Tatooine,” Milo Ventimiglia told the Hollywood Reporter. “With Ultradome, we can bring these debates to the public and settle them in the most logical way possible: through armed combat.”

Said Collector’s Paradise owner (and my boss) Edward Greenberg about Ultradome, “A few weeks ago, on an early Saturday morning (5am) I was at the store waiting for Milo Ventimiglia and crew to show up to shoot something cool and secret for MSN’s Parallel Universe site. I did not know exactly what it was, but I knew with Milo it would be cool and interesting and Russ (Milo’s partner in Divide Pictures) promised to promote the shop in it, so why not.”

Why not indeed! So whom do you think would win this epic battle: Han or Dr. Jones?

Friends of the Cow: Adrian Nicita Talks Riot Shell with Broken Frontier

Riot Shell is an all NEW online comic series, created by Adrian Nicita and revolves around a girl who can transform her arm into any kind of weapon she desires. Nicita Designs and Comic Idol have put together a 6 page preview as a jump on point and the best part is...the rest is up to... YOU!

BROKEN FRONTIER: People might know you as the webmaster for many Top Cow creator websites, like Marc Silvestri, David Nakayama and Romano Molenaar. Is that what you do, mainly?

ADRIAN NICITA: Yes. I mainly design websites and logos, but too many to mention. They haven’t all been comic based but that’s where my passion lies. From a design aspect, I love creating sites for comic books and their creators as I get access to some really amazing artwork. I am currently working on a new site called stormbringers.com for Korby Marks, the creator of Stormbringers. The rest of my free time goes into comicidolonline.com; the official home of Riot Shell.

Friends of the Cow: Mark Millar Announces "Nemesis" Benefit Auction

Have you ever imagined yourself as the star of a comic book? Award-winning writer Mark Millar is offering YOU that chance! Millar's upcoming comic book, "Nemesis" (illustrated by Millar's co-creator, best-selling artist Steven McNiven), is about the fight between America's smartest cop and the world's one and only super-villain. Who is that cop? Well, that's where you come in!

Dynamic Forces will be hosting an auction to name that cop, and the winner's name will be immortalized as the hero of the story! Best of all, all proceeds raised from this once-in-a-lifetime event will go directly into a special fund that will assist handicapped children.

"My older brother, Dr. Bobby Millar, works with these children every day and he explained to me what a difference it would make if they could get a new bus," Mark Millar explains. "Resources are tight at all schools and hospitals in the current economic climate, but we had a great success with the Kick-Ass auction and feel hopeful that comic-book readers will dig deep again and they can build towards this pretty hefty amount of cash they need for the vehicle. Steven and I have had an amazing run of luck with Civil War and Old Man Logan and we're hoping "Nemesis" will be similarly massive. To star as a comic-book hero is pretty cool and the intense movie-studio and production-company interest for "Nemesis" before the book even hits the stands should bode well that whoever wins this auction will get their name out there in many other media too, just like Dave Lizewski. I really hope people get behind this as the staff at the school do a terrific job and the kids would be delighted with this nice, new bus everyone has their eye on."
