War Report: Ron Marz Talks Witchblade

It's never easy when an ongoing series loses its beloved main character – and after the events of the most recent issue, "Witchblade" fans could lose two beloved main characters.

The conflict between Sara Pezzini and Danielle Baptiste came to a massive head in "Witchblade" #127, the third chapter of the long-awaited "War of the Witchblades" story arc from writer Ron Marz and artist Stjepan Sejic. In the issue, Sara and Dani – both wielders of the Witchblade, with Sara bearing the Darkness portion while Dani holds the Angelus-infused half – finally came to blows over which of them should solely possess the Balance. When the dust settled on their confrontation, Dani had taken an ugly fall from a rooftop, while Sara seemingly died at the hands of Sabine, an Angelus warrior.

Quarter Bin reviews Witchblade #128

I love Stjepan Sejic’s artwork. Yes, I know I usually don’t start out that way, but it just needs to be said. Every frame in Witchblade #128, and every issue of the series, catches my eye. Every detail is great. I don’t know if I would be so entralled by this book if he wasn’t doing the art. I’m sure I sound like a broken record about this, since I say the same thing about Sejic every month, but it’s the truth.

Comicvine reviews Berserker #1 (video review)

One of the problems that people are having with comics these days is that they all seemed to be tied into a billion other issues to cover some big major event. It makes it hard to follow a comic when you're supposed to read other titles just to know what the characters are doing. With Berserker, you get a chance to follow characters in a single title. In issue #1, we start getting a look into a bigger world. Something is going down. Check it out to be there from the beginning.

The Runic Review: Witchblade #128 By John H

Lord John Dalberg-Acton is quoted as saying “Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely”, and never was this as true as when we sometimes witness our most trusted figures in society fall. Now imagine if the utterly unimpeachable and pure were to fall. One of the greatest symbols of purity is surely that of an Angel, but now imagine if they had human emotions, and were as corruptible as we are? What kind of world would that be if these powerful patrons of good could be consumed by greed? In Witchblade #128: War of the Witchblades, this is exactly what happens.

Megan Fox: Comics Artist?

Y’know, I think a lot of people have gotten so wrapped up in this myth of Megan Fox (which goes hand in hand with the myth about Michael Bay, by the by), that no one seems to realize that she’s a real human.

And a comics geek to boot.

The War of the Witchblades Rages On

When the Witchblade was formed, it was created to represent the balance between the light and the dark. Created by both the Darkness and the Angelus, the universe’s two primal forces, the mythical weapon bonded with New York City Police Officer Sara Pezzini. Recently the Witchblade split in to its two sides, with Sara retaining its Darkness while the light side went to Danielle Baptiste.

The two battled it out in last month’s Witchblade #127 which culminated in Sara sending Danielle off the edge of the building they fought on, only for Sara to be surprised herself by Angelus’s forces when Sabine plunged her blade through Sara’s back. Recently, we were given a sneak peek at the first few pages of Witchblade #128 and simply put, they look beautiful.

Jorge Lucas Bears The Darkness

Jackie Estacado is understandably upset. He has struggled for years upon years with the curse of the Darkness – a curse that, yes, provides him with slick-slicing armor, but also prevents him from impregnating a woman on punishment of death. Unless, of course, it's the Darkness using the host's body to do the nasty… but that's another story altogether.

Most recently, Jackie has found himself manipulated at the hands of the Sovereign, a new nemesis that is perhaps his fiercest yet. At the same time, a mysterious figure called the Foreigner has entered the arena with a glimmer of hope for Jackie – the Foreigner himself is a former Darkness wielder, and he believes he can help Jackie to release himself from the curse. Will Jackie finally be free to live a quasi-normal life?

Project Fanboy reviews Witchblade #128

Ok, I'll admit, I haven't really read a lot of WITCHBLADE. I'll also cop to not exactly being Ron Marz's biggest fan.

That said, I must also admit to liking this issue.

First and foremost, let me just say that Stjepan Sejic's art is nothing less than godlike! The man is incredible. I couldn't tell from the pdf files if it was painted, CGI, or both, but DAMN this book looks good, like a more stylized 3-D Alex Ross type of thing. Lots of Angelus in gleaming armor flying about in regal poses. Incredible.

Katz's 'American Original' Announces First Titles

When American Original was launched by Jeff Katz earlier this year, everyone was talking about the innovative structure of the new comic-driven multi-media company, but there was no indication of what comics American Original would publish.

With his announcements at Wizard World Philadelphia, Katz has now added some actual titles for comic book fans to sink their teeth into, including everything from a genre action story by Brian Lynch and Gary Whitta, to a comedy anthology with work by Scott Aukerman of Mr. Show.

As Newsarama discussed with the former Booster Gold writer and film executive in May, American Original will publish as many as 10 comics this year, with the goal of adapting them as films, TV shows, web series or video games. The company inked a deal with Top Cow Productions to publish their comics, while American Original retains the license but gives the first-dollar gross to the creators after cash break-even.

Review: Berserker # 1 by Project: Fanboy

Aaron and Farris are about to have a very bad day.

Very bad.

In this Milo Ventimiglia produced comic, writer Rick Loverd really delivers a one-two punch combo of a story. And it has a mean hook, that grabs you from the first bell. Two young small town boys are having problems with their tempers. Farris worries his girlfriend by throwing lamps throwing walls in his sleep. Aaron frightens his girlfriend by shattering her ex-boyfriends arm and getting kicked off the wrestling team.

Newsarama reviews inFAMOUS & discusses William Harms' work on game

Not a day goes by that I don’t hear a joke about the PlayStation 3 being “a great Blu-ray player... and not much else.” Yes, these jokes are often from fanboys of one brand or another, but the greater gaming populace is under this impression as well. The only way for Sony to change this image is to have some really fantastic games available for their system. Multiplatform games are important, of course, but they are just that: you can play them on other systems. The real key, then, is for great exclusive content, games you can’t play anywhere else than on the PlayStation 3. Luckily, Sucker Punch Studios, after a long career with the PS2, decided to stick by Sony’s side and come to their rescue with inFAMOUS.

The other surprising standout, again necessary for the game to rise above its many peers, is the story. The story was written by William Harms (Impaler Comic, Supreme Commander game).
